Titan Security attended the Tuesday, October 19, 2021 meeting of the BOMA/Chicago Preparedness Committee. A summary of the content is provided here.
- Facilitated by Ron Tabaczynski (BOMA) and Tom Henkey (Titan)
- Hosted via Microsoft Teams, with approximately 45 attendees
- Public-sector agencies including the Chicago Fire Department (CFD), Chicago Police Department (CPD) District 1 and District 18, Department of Homeland Security/Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (DHS/CISA), and Metra rail
- BOMA provided update of the current status of downtown reoccupancy and coronavirus status; consensus is that occupancy roughly holding steady
- The Annual Carlos Villarreal Preparedness Tabletop will be held at 9:00am on November 2 via Zoom, and facilitated by Titan Security; registration is open, there is no cost to attend, and this year’s theme will be workplace violence; 60+ attendees enrolled
- Committee reviewed traffic disruptions, including seasonal bridge lifts and the Chicago Sky victory parade route
- Public-sector partners delivered their reports by department
- CFD – a new fire safety director (FSD) class will be held at 321 N Clark on November 16-18; fire life safety drills are ongoing at highrise buildings
- CPD, 1st District – protest activity is ongoing; special event frequency is decreasing; community policing strategy meeting held on October 13; robberies and theft are up year-to-date, particularly vehicle thefts
- CPD 18th District – community policing strategy meeting held on October 18; robberies and thefts up as well, vehicle thefts up 38%; some protests are ongoing
- DHS/CISA – emphasizing de-escalation and employee vigilance materials via https://www.cisa.gov/publication/de-escalation-series
- Metra – rail travel plateauing recently; current ridership is approximately 25% of previous periods; weekend traffic has increased
- BOMA diversity committee happy hour will take place on October 21; BOMA annual meeting will take place on evening of November 19
- The next meeting of the Preparedness Committee will take place on November 16; details to follow
In honor of their very first WNBA Championship, the Chicago Sky will be gathering players, coaches, staff, and fans at Millennium Park today for a citywide celebration. Our partners at the City of Chicago, the Cultural Properties Security Group, and BOMA/Chicago have shared extensive information on the event, and a summary is below.

The City of Chicago will celebrate the 2021 WNBA Champion Chicago Sky on Tuesday, October 19 with a downtown parade and rally. The parade will begin at 11am when the team departs from Wintrust Arena, arriving at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park for a celebration rally starting at 12 noon.
The Parade
The official parade starts with the team leaving Wintrust Arena on Cermak Road at 11am, traveling north on Michigan Avenue from Roosevelt Road to Randolph Street, and heading east to Pritzker Pavilion. Fans are encouraged to cheer on the Sky along the parade route. There will be rolling street closures along the route.

The Rally
A Celebration Rally will take place at Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park starting at approximately 12 noon. The rally is free and open to the public. All attendees must pass through security screening at select entrances off Michigan Avenue and Monroe Street. Guests are encouraged to leave bags at home. Titan Security was among the organizations attending the Thursday, October 14 meeting of the Chicago Public Private Task Force (CPPTF). The group brings together disparate membership from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors to address complex issues impacting Chicago residents and employees.

- There were approximately 20 attendees from the public and private sectors

- CPIC fusion center – new personnel assigned
- CCEMRS – nothing new to report
- DHS/CISA – promoting “power of hello” greeting and de-escalation materials
- OEMC – marathon successful; very busy sport season; special events include Halloween related activities and Hot Chocolate run on 11/07
- Vaccine mandate roundtable: member organizations discussed current state of mandates within their sectors; City of Chicago employees must be vaccinated by 10/15 or test twice weekly; private sector rates varied significantly but increasing overall
- ChicagoFIRST annual tabletop exercise held on 10/05 and 10/06; virtual format and scenarios (extreme weather and ransomware) reviewed with CPPTF
- Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) reviewed upcoming tabletop exercise on 11/02; theme will be workplace violence; invite extended to CPPTF
- CPPTF subcommittee status review; five new working groups formed by CPPTF to address range of high-profile issues including credentialing, infrastructure database, evacuation and shelter-in-place
- Member organization overview provided by Hotel Entertainment and Tourism (HEaT) security group
- Next meeting will be held on Thursday, 11/11 at 10:00am

We have received information of public gatherings and large caravans related to the “EL GRITO” Mexican Independence celebration. We are not sure the number, if any, but due to last year’s celebration, CPD is preparing for crowds on lake shore drive from September 11th through September 18h. Please anticipate longer travel times and delays.
